Taipei City incentivizes companies to grow through their subsidy programs. This article will cover the different types of Taipei City subsidies. There are 4 main types of subsidies a company can apply for at the Taipei City government. There’s the Startup subsidy, the R&D subsidy, the Branding subsidy and the incubators and angel investors subsidy. All have their specific conditions amounts which I will lay out in this article.

The Startup Subsidy
What is it?
It is a subsidy that helps startups which have incorporated within the last year for their initial growth. It aims for startups who work on creative operation models, who have some sort of technological innovation or who have a new service. It funds a budget up to 1 million NT$ or 50% of the budget. So if you want to receive 1M NT$ your project will need to have a total cost of 2M NT$ and you will have to bare 1M NT$ expense.
It is supposedly one of the easiest subsidies to obtain.

The Branding Subsidy
What is it?
The brand establishment is there to help new brands develop or existing brands to expand to new markets and channels.
It helps projects up to 5 million NT$ covering 50% of the total project expenses. This means If you want to receive 5 million, you will have to budget 10 million of expenses and self pay 5 million

The R&D Subsidy
What is it?
The R&D subsidy is an incentive to help fund a specific R&D project for up to 5 million NT$ and will cover up to 50% of the total expenses.
The fields which are subsidized are Innovative Services, Technology Development and Creative Developments.
Usually this grant is requested by bigger companies who are well established and are looking to work on a new R&D project.

The Incubators and angel investors Subsidy
What is it?
This subsidy covers two different types of subsidies all together.
The first one is the incubator subsidy. Which is targeted at companies who have a project that helps startups grow their business in Taiwan. It covers up to 3 million NT$ and 50% of your project, which can be about co-working space, funding & employment, personal development courses, technology import or helping foreigners to come to Taiwan
The second one covers angel investments. The Taipei government will match 10% of your angel’s investment in your company up to 3 million.
